Stop Playing Small and Play Big Instead

comfort zone grit growth mindset purpose resilience Mar 19, 2021

I'd like to invite you in this week's blog to be curious to discover which areas of your life you've been playing small.

Have you been stuck in your comfort zone about work or health or your relationships?

Are you starting to feel like a passenger in your life rather than being firmly in the driving seat?

In these global uncertain times does it feel easier to keep things the same in your life rather than go for what you really want?

Have you been too scared to take the next step, to come out from the shadows into the stretch zone and embrace the bright lights of the growth zone to finally unlock your personal power and thrive at life?

If you answered yes to any of the above then it's time to stop playing small and play BIG - your life is worth it.

I was in San Diego at the weekend with Visionary Business Leaders from all over the world with one common purpose: to make positive change in the world. Ocean Robbins was a guest speaker. He is an amazing activist who set up https://foodrevolution.org/ and is an interesting and inspirational man with Baskin Robbins ice-cream as part of his family heritage.  He also had 9 week premature twins like I did, so he's an instant hit with me. He spoke about taking action for change;

"Don't just wear the 'Save the Whale' badge - SAVE the whale", Ocean Robbins.

If you want things to change just thinking about it won't make it happen - YOU need to take ACTION. It can seem scary but one small change is a great first step. How about:

1. getting off a stop earlier and walk further to work
2. signing up for that course/class you've been putting off
3. joining that dating website
4. prioritising you. Finally getting support to enable you to breakthrough your negative internal narrative and beliefs
5. being courageous enough to dream and to act on your dream
6. actually save a whale

It is my experience over the past 20 years of supporting disabled people, ill people and people who are stuck that, actually, people are able to influence their lives, how they feel, their health and their happiness enormously. They just need to take the first step and then the next one and most people find it isn't as scary as they thought it would be. And it's even less scary with the right support around them whether it's from a loved one or a professional.

Brene Brown says that to be courageous is to be vulnerable. We will look at this more in a future blog but, for now, it's worth recognising that the opposite of her advice is continuing to live small and to stay shut off and in the shadows.

I believe passionately that we all deserve to and have the ability to play big and bright and to live powerfully. And I'd like to invite you to take that first step.

Much love
